The Local Area

The Tarn is known for its unspoilt landscapes, historic villages, and timeless charm. The region is home to medieval bastides, Romanesque churches, and centuries-old châteaux, surrounded by sun-drenched fields, vineyards, and gentle rivers. Quiet lanes and market towns reveal a slower pace of life, while local artisans, markets, and traditional cuisine highlight the area’s rich heritage.

Things to Do from the Campsite

You’re very welcome to slow down here - stretch out in a deckchair, enjoy the view, or cool off with a dip in the pool. For those who like to explore, there are several beautiful walks directly from the site.

Our secluded valley is rich in wildlife, with a wide variety of birds and deer often spotted drinking from the stream in the meadow. At night, the lack of light pollution means wonderfully clear skies, perfect for stargazing.

A little further afield, the valleys of the Aveyron and Viaur offer spectacular walking routes. Bike hire and horse riding are also available nearby. The picturesque town of Laguépie is just a 10-minute drive away, where in summer the river is filled with giant inflatables for children, and the riverbanks are lined with relaxed, affordable cafés and restaurants. Kayaking is available in Najac and Saint-Antonin, both around 30 minutes away.

History & Culture

The region is steeped in history and culture. The stunning medieval town of Cordes-sur-Ciel is just a 10-minute drive away, while the city of Albi - home to its spectacular UNESCO-listed cathedral - is around 40 minutes from the site.

Albi also hosts the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, well worth a visit, and offers a wonderful mix of independent shops and excellent restaurants.

Food & Wine

Every town in the area has its own market, offering high-quality local produce and regional specialities. One of our favourites is the Sunday market in the beautiful town of Saint-Antonin. Set within the dramatic Aveyron gorge, its medieval streets come alive with stalls selling fantastic food, alongside plenty of great places to eat and drink.

Wine lovers will enjoy exploring the nearby Gaillac vineyards, which offer tours, tastings, and summer evening concerts featuring live music and local food - and of course, plenty of wine.

Summer is fête season here, with live music, food, and entertainment taking place almost every week in one of the nearby villages. These local celebrations are a wonderful way to experience the area’s culture and community spirit. Our own fête at the end of July is always a highlight and not to be missed.
